Essentials for Everyone
When packing for the family, there are some must-haves that you need to pack for each person to make the trip comfortable and hassle-free.
Clothing
Basics: Depending on the climate of your destination, pack suitable clothing. Always include comfortable pants or shorts, t-shirts, socks, and undergarments. Layers are always better, instead of one bulky item taking a couple of smaller items.
Footwear: Comfortable walking shoes are a must, and if you’re heading to the beach, don’t forget sandals or flip-flops.
Specialty Items: Swimwear, hats, and jackets may be necessary depending on the location and season.
Toiletries
Hygiene Essentials: Toothbrushes, toothpaste, hairbrush, shampoo, and soap.
Skin Protection: Sunscreen and lip balm with SPF are crucial regardless of the weather.
First Aid Kit: Include basic items like band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and allergy medicine.
Dont forget you can pick up most things in other countries.
Electronics
Devices: Smartphones and chargers, tablets loaded with games and movies for kids.
Adapters: If traveling internationally, make sure to bring appropriate power adapters.
Powerbank: A powerbank is a great idea. Just make sure the wattage is written on the powerbank as some airport staff will ask to see this and if its not labelled on it they may take it off you.
Kids’ Special
Packing for kids requires a few additional items to keep them comfortable and entertained throughout the trip.
Comfort
Favorite Toy/Blanket: A familiar item from home can help soothe younger children in new environments.
Snacks: Pack a variety of healthy snacks to keep hunger at bay during long travel periods.
Entertainment
Books and Activity Kits: Helps keep them occupied during downtimes or while in transit, colouringkits, scatch pictures.
Portable Games: Handheld electronic games or card games can be a lifesaver during a long car ride or flight.
Headphones: Depending on how your traveling but we found the kids rated headphones are too quiet for the planes. Its very noisey on the plane and they couldnt hear anything.
Parents' Packing Corner
As parents, packing for yourself often comes last, but it’s important to remember some key items that will make the trip easier for you.
Essentials
Documents: Ensure all family members have necessary IDs. Keep passports, tickets, and reservations together. I also scan these in and send a copy to my email, that way if anything happens to my phone or luggage i can go to a internet cafe and pull up my email and have a copy.
Money Management: Have a mix of cash and cards, and consider using a money belt for safety.
Pacsafe bags: I also love pacsafe handbags, Im not a fan of the moneybelts but pacsafe handbags have mesh in them and are slash proof.
Convenience Items
Coffee or Tea Packets: For a quick caffeine fix to start your morning right, especially if you're unsure about what will be available. Check to see if your hotel provides these, its likley they do.
Backpack or Day Bag: For carrying essentials like water bottles, extra clothing, and snacks while exploring.
Safety First
Ensure that you’re prepared for any situation by including these in your packing list.
Medical Needs
Medications: Prescription meds and general over-the-counter meds for headaches, fever, etc., should be packed.
Health Insurance Info: Always carry information and any necessary contact numbers.
Emergency Contacts and Information
List of Contacts: Local emergency numbers, addresses and phone numbers of accommodations, and embassies if abroad.
Itinerary Copies: Leave one with a family member or friend and keep a copy in your own bag.
